PIXEL MECHANICS

What is Pixel Mechanics?

Pixel Mechanics offers a unique insight into the User Experience (UX) for titles that are in development by conducting research-oriented video game focus groups, also referred to as playtesting sessions. By working with gamers on a personal level to better understand their attitudes and behaviors toward the games they are asked to play, we provide an in-depth look into an audiences’ psyche. Using various research methodologies inspired by psychometrics, we quantify subjective data for easy interpretation, so that brands and studios can improve their games, user retention, and quality of products, all with the help of their very own audience.

A focus group is a small selection of people brought together to provide insights, attitudes, and opinions surrounding a common interest through surveys and interviews. At Pixel Mechanics, our focus groups are curated to match a project’s target audience based on general video game interests, playstyles, and demographics.

Similar to the selection process of a focus group, a playtester is an individual who plays a portion of a project to provide feedback and insight into the game’s level of enjoyment, mechanics, and overall impression.

No. Pixel Mechanics will never share your personal information with anyone. Please review our Privacy Policy.

Playtesting is a critical phase in game development where real players engage with a game to provide feedback on gameplay, mechanics, balance, and overall experience. This helps identify issues and improve a game before launch.

We offer 100% customizable focus group playtesting services catered to your project’s needs. Please visit our Focus Group Testing page for more information.

Currently, we only offer playtesting on PC, but plan to expand to console and mobile in the future.

We utilize various methods to recruit a diverse range of playtesters:

Targeted outreach to specific demographics that match your game’s audience.
Online communities and forums.
Social media and advertising campaigns.
Existing user databases from prior projects.

Yes! However, they still must register to be a Pixel Mechanics playtester here for security reasons.

We use structured feedback forms and guided discussions to help players articulate their thoughts clearly. Additionally, we analyze gameplay data and observations to provide a comprehensive view of player behavior and preferences.

Playtesting sessions can vary in length, typically ranging from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the game and the goals of the test.

Absolutely! We recommend conducting multiple rounds of playtesting throughout the development process. Each round can focus on different aspects, such as mechanics, user interface, or balancing, ensuring continuous improvement. Should you have an interest in multiple playtests, or are interested in a long-term contract, we will make you a custom, flexible plan.

After playtesting sessions are concluded, we’ll schedule a post-playtest meeting to discuss results. You’ll receive a detailed report summarizing player feedback and observations, as well as actionable recommendations based on the insights gathered.

Because we are a customizable service, cost is dependent on some of the following:

The type of playtesting you choose.

The number of participants.

The duration, frequency, and complexity of the focus group sessions.

If add-on options are selected (ex. Biometric tools).
