Here, you’ll find answers to common questions to help you navigate the playtesting process.
Playtesting is the process of testing a game in its development stage to gather feedback on gameplay mechanics, balance, and overall enjoyment.
We welcome players of all skill levels and backgrounds. Whether you’re a casual gamer or a hardcore enthusiast, your perspective will help us and developers create a better experience.
Playtesters must be over the age of 18 to participate.
To sign up, simply fill out our playtester application form here. We’ll review your application and get back to you with details via email if you are selected.
During playtesting, you’ll play the game and provide feedback on your experience. Sessions may be held in person or online, moderated or unmoderated, depending on the game’s format and your location. Expect to engage in discussions about what you liked, what could be improved, and any bugs you encountered.
To learn more about moderated vs unmoderated, as well as the requirements for each, head to our Quick Guide to Unmoderated vs Moderated Playtesting page.
Sessions typically last between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the game and the number of features being tested.

Yes! Compensation varies by project. Some playtesters receive gift cards, game credits, exclusive content, or even monetary compensation. Details will be provided before your testing session.
We appreciate your enthusiasm, but you must keep your experiences and feedback confidential due to NDA compliance outlined in the Playtester Agreement form. This helps us maintain the integrity of the testing process and protects the privacy of the developers and studios we test for.
Please report any bugs or issues you find during playtesting. Before you begin any playtest, we’ll provide you with a specific format for reporting these, as well as any known bugs to be on the lookout for that we may already be aware of.
Games break (a lot), so you’ll still receive your full compensation as if you participated in a full session, regardless of a project’s playability.
Your feedback will be compiled and analyzed by our Pixel Mechanics research team to create actionable statistics for our partnered developers to identify the strengths and weaknesses to their games we playtest.
